Snezhnaya Guide — Map, Story, New 7.0 Mechanics & Characters (Genshin Impact 7.0)

This Snezhnaya guide covers it all: after six years of buildup, the train finally pulls into the frozen north — and the snow-covered nation we’ve been hearing about since the very first cutscene is finally here.
TL;DR
- Snezhnaya is the flagship Version 7.0 region — the eternal-winter nation ruled by the Tsaritsa (the Cryo Archon), finally given a name in 7.0: Anastasya Feodorovna Snezhnaya.
- The map is story-gated: you only get a slice of it at first, then more opens as you clear Chapter VII quests.
- The big new system is Stellar Glimmer — Stellar-Conduct (Cryo+Electro) and Stellar Swirl (Cryo+Anemo). Stellar Swirl is the true 7.0 newcomer; Stellar-Conduct actually arrived a patch early with Sandrone.
- New playable stars: Odette (5★ support) and F2P-friendly Alyosha (4★ healer/support) are the two characters actually debuting in 7.0. Sandrone (5★ Cryo Claymore) returned last patch and remains central to the new meta.

What Is Snezhnaya?

Snezhnaya is “the nation of eternal winter in the north of Teyvat” — perpetual snowstorms, auroras at night, and permafrost stretching to the horizon. It’s one of the seven nations of Teyvat, home of the Cryo Archon, and HQ of the in-game evil you’ve been fighting since Mondstadt: the Fatui. Settlements keep the cold at bay with a Kresnik’s Torch fueled by a crystal called Kresnik Kristall — a resource that becomes a full plot point.
Inspiration is woven throughout: Snezhnaya draws on a mix of Tsarist and Soviet Russia, and most place names are Russian words. Where Russia lends the setting, Italian commedia dell’arte gives you the cast — the Fatui Harbingers are named after stock characters from that tradition.
Who Runs Snezhnaya
The nation worships the Tsaritsa, the Cryo Archon — and in 7.0 she finally gets a name: Anastasya Feodorovna Snezhnaya (her full title is “Tsaritsa of All Snezhnaya”). She holds the Cryo Authority among the Divine Thrones of Celestia, and she is not yet a playable character.
Under her, Snezhnaya is run through the Fatui, the military and intelligence force she established alongside Pierro (The Jester), led by the Eleven Fatui Harbingers.
Here’s where it gets big for the wider story: the Tsaritsa’s end-goal is overthrowing the Heavenly Principles, and she’s been collecting the other Archons’ Gnoses to do it. As of 7.0 she holds six of the seven Gnoses — with the Pyro Gnosis the sole holdout after Capitano‘s refusal in Natlan.
How to Get There (the Story Gate)
You can’t just walk into Snezhnaya and explore freely — the map is story-gated, and pushing in without meeting the requirements means you’re “quickly overwhelmed by the sheer cold.”
| Step | Trigger | What Opens |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Complete the Prologue quest “Song of the Dragon and Freedom” | A small slice of Volkodlak Tundra |
| 2 | Start “Gunfire in the Silent Lands” | The Sretomorozsk area |
| 3 | Complete “Gunfire in the Silent Lands” | The entire Snezhnaya map |
Geography & Areas on the Map
Snezhnanezhnaya sits in the far north of Teyvat, with the autonomous region Nod-Krai at its southern Snezhnaya sits in the far north of Teyvat, with the autonomous region Nod-Krai at its southern border. Areas to keynote:
Everfrozen Earth

The northern permafrost region and one of the biggest names on the map, home to Morepesok.
Snezhnograd
The capital (literally “Snow City”), where the main city content and the Korolevskiy Theater live.
Flamefeather Valley

A distinct wilderness district, visually a warm autumn-toned pocket inside the otherwise frozen map.
Fellfrost Peak

A distinct wilderness district.
White Birch Snowgrave

Another named sub-region, sitting just north of Fellfrost Peak — add a real one-line description here once you’ve explored it.
Zapolyarny Palace

The governing seat and the Tsaritsa’s heart of power.
The train ties the map together. Plenty to explore once the gates come down.
The Story So Far: Chapter VII
(Updated for 7.1) The story is Archon Quest Chapter VII, now four acts deep across 7.0 and 7.1.
- Act I — “Everwinter Without Mercy” (7.0) sends the Traveler and Paimon into Snezhnaya as the “supposed final stop” on their journey. Highlights include a crashed-train rescue, a meeting with Pierro, and the exposure of Project Stuzha’s corruption.
- Act II — “Wraith’s Nocturne” (7.0) ends with the Tsaritsa returning from a campaign against a monster creating endless snowstorms.
- Act III (7.1) continues straight on from Act II. Its exact title isn’t officially confirmed as of this writing — treat any name you see floating around as community-sourced until HoYoverse’s own patch notes catch up.
- Act IV — “A Rekviem for the Underworld” (7.1), the version’s namesake: the Traveler finally meets the Tsaritsa face-to-face and learns the real strategy behind her Gnosis collection, while Ronova, the Ruler of Death, forces a full confrontation and Rhinedottir, the Ruler of Life, complicates things further.
Unlocking Acts III and IV needs Adventure Rank 18 plus a completed Act II. Clearing Act IV before November 3, 2026 pays a one-time bonus of Primogems plus ascension/talent materials and Snezhnaya specialties — after that date the quest’s still completable, just without the bonus.
New 7.0 Mechanics: Stellar Glimmer, the Cold, and More

The new reaction family — Stellar Glimmer — arrived in two waves, not one:
| Reaction | Elements | Effect | Enabled By | New to 7.0? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stellar-Conduct | Cryo + Electro | Upgraded Superconduct — the resulting Polestar Field boosts Cryo/Electro damage and lowers Physical RES | Sandrone, Odette, or the Cryo Traveler | No — arrived with Sandrone in Luna VIII |
| Stellar Swirl | Cryo + Anemo | Upgraded Swirl — builds a Stellar Vortex that detonates for AoE Cryo damage | Odette or the Cryo Traveler (not Sandrone) | Yes — the real 7.0 newcomer |
Worth knowing if you’re F2P: the Cryo Traveler enables both reactions, so nobody needs to pull for this meta.
Other Mechanics:
Chill Zones & Sheer Cold
Some areas are far colder than the rest and hit your whole party, not just one character like Dragonspine did. Stay near Kristall outcrops, wildlife, or heat sources to stay warm.
Prime Ice Constructs

Harvest Prime Ice to craft contraptions via your new Eye of Graeae goggles: Launching Platforms, Snowball Launchers, Grappling Guns, Link Mechanisms, and Basic Heat Sources. Place a Stellar-Conduct Polestar Field near one to empower it.

The Shadow Realm & Firearms

Corrupted regions entered through rifts, featuring third-person shooter sequences. You’ll need to equip and assemble elemental firearms to clear out Shadow Realm Cores.

The Rail System

Fast travel between stations; the train itself is a mobile hub with an armory, adventuring facilities, and a crafting bench.
New Enemies & Bosses to Farm
- Snowland Fae — the common enemy group of the region, dropping Ethereal materials.
- Aberrant Chimeric Monsters — a new enemy group.
- Immortal Construct — the normal (overworld) boss, found in Everfrozen Earth; drops the Unscorched Blossom Branch.
Note: As of 7.0, Snezhnaya didn’t have a weekly boss of its own — the two new characters drew talent materials from existing Trounce Domains elsewhere (see the table below), and that part is still true.
New Characters from Snezhnaya

| Character | Rarity / Element / Weapon | Role | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Odette (Odette Spessiva) | 5★ Cryo Sword | Support / Sub-DPS | NEW in 7.0 — the Prima Ballerina of the Korolevskiy Troupe; converts Superconduct → Stellar-Conduct and Cryo Swirl → Stellar Swirl |
| Alyosha | 4★ Electro Polearm | Healer / Support | NEW in 7.0, free via the Archon Quest — a hunter from Sretomorozsk; buffs ATK, Stellar-Conduct damage, and EM, plus healing |
| Sandrone | 5★ Cryo Claymore | On-field Main DPS | Returning, not new — debuted last patch (Luna VIII); the “Marionette” Harbinger who runs Snezhnograd operations, kit already runs on Stellar-Conduct, still pairs naturally with Odette |
Regional Materials & Domains — What’s Worth Doing

If you’re building the new 7.0 Cryo/Electro units, Snezhnaya is your one-stop farm — except for one detour:
| Material / Domain | Source | Used For |
|---|---|---|
| Frostfairy Flower, Flockingweed, Golden Fern | Local specialties, Snezhnaya overworld | Character ascension |
| Unscorched Blossom Branch | Immortal Construct (Lv. 30+, Everfrozen Earth) | Ascension |
| Twisted Withered Branch | Il Dottore’s Trounce Domain — in Sumeru, not Snezhnaya | Talents (Odette) |
| Elixir of the Heretic | The Doctor’s Trounce Domain — Nod-Krai | Talents (Alyosha) |
| Ethereal Glimmershard / Crystal / Crystalscale Stone | Snowland Fae (overworld) | Ascension & talents |
| Teachings / Guide / Philosophies of Charity | Relics of the Fallen Grace (Mastery), Mon/Thu/Sun | Talent books |
| 7.0 artifact sets (names still community-reported) | Inverted Glacier (Blessing) | Artifacts |
| Weapon ascension materials | Scars of Cursed Obsession (Forgery) | Weapon ascension |
Why Players Care in 7.0
Three big reasons to pay attention right now:
- It’s the flagship region. The whole 7.0 “Everwinter Without Mercy” patch is Snezhnaya.
- It’s a new meta. Stellar Glimmer reshapes Cryo/Electro/Anemo team building, and the Cryo Traveler means nobody’s locked out of it.
- It’s the story payoff. After six years of buildup, this is the endgame nation.
As of Version 7.0 (August 2026), Snezhnaya is the coldest, most story-dense place in Teyvat. Pack warm gear, finish that Prologue, and let Chapter VII take you north. Version 7.1’s “A Rekviem for the Underworld” (September 23, 2026) pushes the story two acts further — the frozen nation isn’t done yet.
